RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphism)

Variation in the length of DNA fragments produced by digestion of genomic DNA with a restriction enzyme, due to differences in the spacing between restriction sites at a hypervariable locus. RFLP typing was the first DNA-based forensic identification method (Jeffreys, 1984-1986).
