Specific optical rotation ([α])

The standardised optical rotation of a substance at a defined temperature and wavelength, calculated from the Biot equation: [α] = α / (c × l), where c is in g/100 mL and l is in decimetres; tabulated in pharmacopoeias as a compound-identity criterion.
