PCR-based or sequencing-based confirmation that a bone fragment is of human (Homo sapiens) origin, using human-specific primer sequences or mitochondrial cytochrome b comparison. The definitive backstop when macroscopic and histological assessment of human-vs-non-human identity is inconclusive.
