Common questions

What does ISO 9001 certification actually guarantee?+

ISO 9001 certification means an organization has documented and implemented systematic quality processes. It does not guarantee zero defects or error-free operations. It shows the organization has quality controls in place, not that those controls are perfect.

Is ISO 9001 enough for a forensic laboratory?+

No. ISO 9001 is a generic quality-management standard and is not sufficient on its own for forensic labs. Forensic labs need ISO/IEC 17025, which sets technical-competence standards. In India, NABL uses ISO/IEC 17025 as the standard for certifying forensic science labs.

What is the difference between ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 17025?+

ISO 9001 is a broad quality-management system for any organization. ISO/IEC 17025 is specifically designed for testing and calibration labs and covers technical competence. For forensic labs, ISO/IEC 17025 is the technical-competence standard that NABL uses to certify forensic science labs.
