Conforming Unit
Definition
A unit that was manufactured in accordance with the approved design specification. A conforming unit may still be involved in an injury if the design itself is defective, but it cannot support a manufacturing defect claim.

Common questions
Why can a conforming unit still injure someone?+
Conformity only means the unit matches its design specification, it says nothing about whether that design is itself safe. A product built exactly to a flawed design will injure users despite passing every manufacturing quality check, which is why design defect claims are analysed separately from manufacturing defect claims.
How does a forensic examiner determine whether a failed unit was conforming?+
The examiner compares the physical unit's dimensions, materials, and assembly against the approved specification documents and, where available, the manufacturer's quality-control records for that production batch, to see whether any deviation exists that could explain the failure.
