Hidden Infestation
Definition
Insects developing inside intact grain kernels (as with Sitophilus larvae) or concealed within the product matrix, invisible to surface inspection. Detection requires X-ray, flotation, or cutting open a sample of kernels. Hidden infestation is a major quality control challenge in grain trade.
