NFSU Gandhinagar Campus

National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) is the country's first and only Institution of National Importance dedicated to forensic and investigative sciences. It was created by an Act of Parliament in 2020, building on the foundation of the Gujarat Forensic Sciences University (GFSU) established in 2009. GFSU was the first university anywhere in the world devoted exclusively to forensic studies, and the NFSU Act extended that mandate nationally.

Headquartered in Gandhinagar, NFSU now operates across a national footprint with campuses in Delhi, Goa, Bhopal, Pune, Tripura, Manipur, and Dharwad, alongside international campuses in Uganda and elsewhere. The university works closely with the Ministry of Home Affairs and trains both civilian forensic professionals and law-enforcement personnel.

Why it matters for students: NFSU is the closest thing India has to a single-institution pipeline from undergraduate through doctoral research in forensic disciplines. Programmes span forensic biology and DNA, cyber and digital forensics, ballistics, document examination, forensic psychology, behavioural sciences, criminology, fingerprinting, narcotics, accident reconstruction, financial fraud, and homeland security.

Selection is competitive across UG, PG, and PhD streams, with most courses requiring a science background. NFSU graduates work across central forensic labs, state forensic science laboratories, police departments, private investigation, cyber-security firms, and academia.
