The Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science was established by the Government of India in 1972 under the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) following the recommendations of the UGC to promote education and research in Criminology and Forensic Science. Inspired by the UNESCO Symposium held in London in 1955, the institute played an important role in bringing forensic and criminological studies into mainstream university education. Initially started as a training institute for officers of the criminal justice system, it later expanded its activities in research, professional training, and academic development. Over the years, thousands of officers from police, judiciary, forensic laboratories, defense forces, and civil administration — including participants from several foreign countries — have received specialized training from the institute. In 1991, the institute was upgraded to a National Institute and was later renamed after Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan. In 2020, after the establishment of National Forensic Sciences University as an Institution of National Importance, the institute became the Delhi Campus of NFSU. Today, the Delhi Campus offers a wide range of programmes in Forensic Science, Criminology, Cyber Security, Digital Forensics, Forensic Psychology, Forensic Accounting, Investigative Science, and related disciplines at undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, certificate, and doctoral levels. Popular programmes include M.Sc. Forensic Science, M.Sc. Cyber Security, M.Sc. Digital Forensics and Information Security, integrated courses in Criminology and Forensic Science, as well as various professional diploma and training programmes for working professionals. The campus is equipped with modern laboratories, advanced instrumentation facilities, and research centers that support practical learning and innovation in forensic and allied sciences.
