The Amity University established the Amity Institute of Forensic Sciences (AIFS) with the vision of providing quality education and professional training in the field of forensic science. The foundation of the institution was inspired by the vision of Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder of the Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (RBEF), who aimed to create a world-class center for knowledge and academic excellence. Established under the Amity University Uttar Pradesh Act, 2005, the institute focuses on developing skilled forensic professionals through a combination of theoretical learning and practical exposure.
AIFS was formally established in 2008, although forensic science education at Amity began in 2002 under AIBHAS. The institute offers programmes such as B.Sc. (Hons.) Forensic Science, M.Sc. Forensic Science, and Ph.D. in Forensic Science, along with several short-term training programmes designed to enhance practical skills and industry exposure. The courses are structured to prepare students for careers as forensic scientists, researchers, academicians, consultants, and forensic experts in various sectors.
The institute regularly organizes national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, quiz competitions, and awareness activities to promote academic interaction and professional development. AIFS also encourages extracurricular and social initiatives such as blood donation camps and community outreach activities.
One of the major strengths of AIFS is its experienced faculty team, consisting of highly qualified academicians and researchers with significant publications in reputed national and international journals. The institute has also received research funding from government agencies such as the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D).
AIFS actively conducts research in emerging areas of forensic science including cyber forensics, forensic genetics, questioned documents and fingerprints, forensic nanotechnology, and drug-receptor interactions. With its focus on innovation, research, and skill-based education, the institute aims to develop competent professionals capable of contributing effectively to forensic investigation and the criminal justice system.
