Why hasn't virtopsy replaced conventional autopsy in India?+
Scanner availability, cost, a shortage of trained forensic radiologists, and unresolved medico-legal acceptance of imaging-only cause-of-death findings have kept it at the pilot stage rather than routine practice.
What can virtopsy show that a conventional autopsy might miss?+
Three-dimensional imaging can make gas patterns, fine fracture lines, and foreign body trajectories easier to visualise and document, though soft-tissue disease and toxicology still generally need conventional dissection and sampling.
