Why does a structured form detect more findings than free-text notes?+
It prompts the examiner to ask about and record specific symptoms, such as voice change, difficulty swallowing, or visual disturbance, that an unstructured narrative note commonly omits because the examiner did not think to ask.
Does the absence of visible injury on the form mean strangulation did not occur?+
No. Many confirmed strangulation cases show no external marks at all, which is exactly why the form prompts documentation of reported symptoms and internal findings alongside visible injury rather than relying on bruising as the primary evidence.
