Novel psychoactive substance (NPS)

A substance designed to mimic the effects of a controlled drug while falling outside the definition of any currently scheduled substance; identified by the EMCDDA through the EU Early Warning System and requiring ENFSI DWG laboratories to develop new analytical methods often without an existing certified reference material.
