Blueing reaction
Definition
The blue bruising visible when fresh Psilocybe tissue is cut or damaged, caused by the rapid oxidation of psilocin to an indole-derived quinone. Used as a macroscopic screening test; its absence does not exclude psilocybin-containing species.
