Lawrence Farwell's EEG-based method using the P300 event-related potential to detect concealed knowledge of crime-relevant items. Addressed by the Indian Supreme Court in Selvi v. Karnataka 2010 under the umbrella of BEAP techniques.

What does the P300 response actually measure in this technique?+
The P300 is a brain-electrical response elicited roughly 300 milliseconds after a subject is shown a stimulus, and it appears more strongly when the stimulus is recognised as significant, so the technique presents crime-relevant probe items alongside irrelevant ones and compares the P300 amplitude across them.
Why is Brain Fingerprinting grouped with BEOS under BEAP in Indian jurisprudence rather than treated as identical to it?+
Both use EEG-based concealed-knowledge inference and were addressed together as brain-based investigative aids in Selvi, but they are separately developed methods with distinct signal-processing approaches, so courts and technical literature keep them as related but non-identical techniques within the same BEAP category.
