How is ANPR different from an ordinary traffic camera?+
An ordinary camera only captures an image, while ANPR runs optical character recognition on that image in real time to convert the plate into searchable, database-logged text, enabling automated alerts and cross-referencing against watchlists.
What limits ANPR accuracy in the field?+
Dirty, damaged, obscured or non-standard plates, poor lighting, motion blur at high speed and glare can all cause misreads, so ANPR hits are typically treated as investigative leads that need human verification before evidentiary use.
