Handwriting comparison needs a known writing sample, but when no suspect exemplar exists, stylometric and linguistic features such as word choice, spelling errors and sentence structure can narrow a pool of suspects or corroborate a handwriting finding.
Why is disguised handwriting a particular challenge in these cases?+
An author trying to conceal identity may deliberately alter slant, letter forms or writing hand, which can mask natural individual characteristics and forces the examiner to look for features that are harder to disguise consistently, such as pen pressure patterns and letter proportions.
