Inclusion fingerprinting

Definition

Identification of mineral inclusions trapped inside a gemstone during growth as indicators of the geological environment. Marble-hosted rubies typically contain calcite and dolomite inclusions; skarn rubies contain grossular garnet and diaspore. Inclusions are a complementary tool alongside isotope work.
